Samsung Dumping Apple? Really!

Strange report coming out of The Korean Times on Monday 10/22 reporting that Samsung will be terminating it’s 15 Billion a year contract with Apple Inc. to supply the electronics giant with LCD screens.

Hmm , me thinks Samsung is trying to save face here, Apple has been methodically moving all its valuable business away from Samsung, a company who has shown disrespect for its largest clients best interests. tv

Update 10/22/2012 – A spokesperson for Samsung has denied this report.

Miracle on 34th Street? Tim Cook sends Macy customers to Gimbals, Wall Street Boys have their day!

Jeez, if you listen to all the dopey commentary out there you would think Apple had a problem on their hands, Let’s step back a minute #1 Apple walks a fine line when it comes to software, for the most part Apple places apps on their devices to set a bar for third parties to emulate. From day one, Apple’s has not made it their mission to produce the best software product, rather they will offer a product to fill a needed application gap. Apple believes that great software sells great hardware the Apple 2 made history because of a spreadsheet called Visicalc. Mac needed MacWrite before MSFT produced Word & Office.  It is what has always set them apart from Microsoft, they wish to encourage third-party companies to produce great software, Apple wants a diverse echo system. #2 The new Map App has been fine for me so far but if I don’t like it, which is the case with the new podcast app I will look to a third-party. There must be one hundred navigation apps out there, priced from $.99 to $79.99. Right now the competition is exploiting an issue (they need something) and the Wall Street boys like to play the ups and downs so they add fuel to the fire.

No Big Deal!

Will Apple introduce “The iWatch”, Should Dick Tracy Watch Out !

Thx to ADR Studios for this concept design

With Apple changing the design of the iPod Nano and what looks to be a modified version of IOS could it be that Apple will be introducing an iWatch with capabilities to interface with the iPhone and iPad? I think there exists a very strong possibility.

Apple may see a market to populate these devices with custom apps like weather, exercise pedometers, email, twitter and text monitors, health apps, remote controls and Siri interface to control it all. This is a market Apple could really get into especially design wise. I can see Jony Ive having a lot of fun designing a “Fashion Accessory ” combined with a separate SDK allowing third parties to develop apps for it, this could be very interesting.

The technology of Star Trek and Dick Tracy may finally be upon us.

The Verdict is in, The Apple v Samsung case is a win for American Business !

Today’s verdict justly comes on the anniversary of Steve Jobs voluntarily stepping down from his leadership role @ Apple. This issue with competitors was a chief concern for Apple’s CEO and I am sure he would be very pleased with this victory. The California jury decision is not only a win for Steve Jobs and Apple, it is a win for all American businesses that value the ideals of true and fair competition. Samsung’s distasteful public statement after the verdict is only further proof that Samsung just does not get it. Ingrained in their company’s culture is the concept that competing in business is only a matter of efficient production irregardless of the products origin, environmental concerns or working conditions. Apple plays by the rules agreed upon by international business and so should Samsung. While most Pacific Rim corporations follow a business model of copying other companies innovation and reproducing a less expensive version, Samsung has deliberately crossed the line by stealing trusted information from their own client and using it to compete against their own client.

Apple said in a statement provided to The Loop.

“The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than even we knew. The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values. At Apple, we value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. We make these products to delight our customers, not for our competitors to flagrantly copy. We applaud the court for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right.

Did Samsung’s Attorneys actually help Apple win their fight? Apple is right to stand tall!

During Samsung’s confusing closing arguments many of the points made by their Attorneys in one area actually strengthened Apple’s cause in others.

I am sure that the jury picked up on this.

this is not the result of competition, this is the result of a corporate culture that has been weaned on copyism (my new word), their lack of innovation and their addiction to copyism has served these companies fine when stealing industries from the innovators using low labor costs and toxic manufacturing to compete. tv Continue reading “Did Samsung’s Attorneys actually help Apple win their fight? Will the next iPhone have a larger screen, Yes and No !, Same size yet bigger ? (Updated)

The next iPhone will probably be the last hands on iPhone Steve Jobs took an active role in developing, if true then we can make a few predictions about its design. Apple got it right with the iPhone 4s form factor, easy to navigate with one hand, not too big to carry and not too small to read clearly. If Apple does indeed introduce a larger screen with its next iPhone , I believe they will maintain the same form factor while increasing the screen size, with innovation and miniaturization this is possible , here’s how.

John Gruber of Daring Fireball fame lays out a strong case. tv

My Wish list for IOS 6, It’s that time of year ! How am I doing so Far? (Updated) 3 out of 10

It would appear that we are at a reaching point of useful new features in IOS. At least ones I can name off the top of my head, However with all new technology we can not predict what Apple or other parties have dreamed up. For now this is my wish list for IOS 6. Not necessarily in order of priority order. tv

Please fill the comments with your ideas! I will publish them and credit you in an upcoming post tv

  5. Tab key on the keyboard (what’s up with that).   Maybe
  6. APIs for the notification center, (I miss Weather and Stocks in my iPad notification center) No
  7. Ability to delete Apple apps that are no longer used (some of these Apple needs like address book but others like stocks they do not).  No

Why a Samsung / Tizen deal may be the First Shot Fired in WW III

Why Samsung might be interested in the Tizen OS: tv

Tizen is an open source, standards-based software platform supported by leading mobile operators, device manufacturers, and silicon suppliers for multiple device categories, including smartphones, tablets, netbooks, in-vehicle infotainment devices, smart TVs, and more. Tizen offers an innovative operating system, applications, and a user experience that consumers can take from device to device

Simple : Samsung believes that their, hardware, will sell their phones! tv

Samsung now understands that it is at the mercy of Google’s Android flubs, under attack from one of their largest customers Apple, sees a chance to own the asian market. Dropping Android would solve all their problems. If not for the fact that Microsoft poses the same threat as Google minus the lawsuits they might even move to Windows Phone. tv

The equivalent of WWIII will begin with the Pacific Rim countries developing or uniting behind one operating system not produced in the west. tv

Update 8/6/2013
Samsung takes more steps towards Tizen

Class Assignment : Solving the iPad Mini Dilemma using Apple’s " Think Different" Philosophy

Assignment : Solving the iPad Mini Dilemma using Apple’s “Think Different” Philosophy

Everyday , everywhere all we are hearing are news reports, rumors and blogs about the likelihood of Apple releasing a 7 ” tablet and about “what it will be” , “should it be” and can it even be done. So we decided to take a look at this topic. I think you’ll find some surprising observations.
Please understand we are not predicting that Apple will release a smaller form factor tablet, even sightings of an Apple prototype is not unusual. In fact it is in Apple’s nature to research and field test any viable product in their orbit. Our analysis merely serves to illustrate how Apple would historically make a decision concerning this product type.
